Ábaco Raises $53M in Funding

Ábaco, a fintech startup based in San Salvador, El Salvador, announced it has secured $53 million in a funding round combining venture equity and institutional debt to expand SME lending across Central America. The company, which specializes in AI-powered working capital solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises, has now raised over $60 million in total funding since its inception in 2023.

The funding round featured a $50 million warehouse facility anchored by Accial Capital, joined by existing lender Pomona Impact. The equity portion of the round included participation from Promotora Social Mexico, Nazca Ventures, Alaya Capital, Caricaco Ventures, and Innogen Capital.

Ábaco plans to use the new capital to scale its lending operations, aiming to originate more than $350 million in loans in the short term. The funds will support the company's expansion across El Salvador, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic, further enabling its AI-driven platform to provide real-time financing to thousands of SMEs.

Founded in 2023 by Alejandro McCormack, Carlos Villalobos, and Moisés Hasbún, Ábaco is a fintech company transforming access to working capital for SMEs across Central America. Its AI-powered platform analyzes thousands of data points in real time to approve credit lines and disburse financing in under 24 hours without requiring traditional collateral or personal guarantees.
