Bioptimus Raises $35 Million in Seed Round

Bioptimus, a Paris, France-based AI-powered bioscience startup, has emerged from stealth with $35 million in seed funding.

The round was led by Sofinnova Partners, with support from Bpifrance Large Venture and global funds like Cathay Innovation. Top tech investors including Xavier Niel have also joined the round.

Founded in 1972, Sofinnova Partners is a venture capital investment firm based in Paris, France. The firm prefers to invest in companies operating in the life sciences sector and primarily focuses on investing in the healthcare and sustainability sectors.

With the seed funding, Bioptimus is set to build the first universal AI foundation model for biology.

Led by Professor Jean-Philippe Vert, Ph.D., Bioptimus is building the first universal AI foundation model in biology to drive advancements in scientific research and biotechnological innovation. The company plans to connect the different scales of biology with generative AI — from molecules to cells, tissues, and whole organisms. Leveraging Owkin's data capabilities and AWS computing environment, Bioptimus plans to differentiate itself through comprehensive data representation. Its mission is to build the first universal AI foundation model for biology to fuel breakthrough discoveries and accelerate innovations in biomedicine and beyond.
