Chai Discovery Raises $400M Series C

Chai Discovery, a San Francisco based developer of AI models for molecular design and drug discovery, has raised $400M in a Series C funding round. The investment values the company at $3.8 billion.

The round was led by Index Ventures, with participation from Kleiner Perkins, Sequoia Capital, and Dimension. Additional investors include Bain Capital Ventures, Battery Ventures, Baillie Gifford, BDT & MSD, Sapphire Ventures, Avra Capital, Thrive Capital, OpenAI, Oak HC/FT, Menlo Ventures, General Catalyst, Glade Brook, Avenir, Lachy Groom, and Yosemite.

Chai Discovery plans to use the capital to further accelerate its research and development and expand the deployment of its AI-driven molecular design platform within the pharmaceutical and life sciences sectors.

Founded in 2024 by Joshua Meier, Jack Dent, Matthew McPartlon, and Jacques Boitreaud, Chai Discovery is based in San Francisco. The company mission is to replace trial-and-error drug discovery with AI-powered engineering. Its software platform provides scientists with generative models that predict and reprogram molecular interactions to address difficult-to-drug therapeutic targets.
