Leona Health Lands $14M Seed Funding

Leona Health, a San Francisco- and Mexico City-based AI co-pilot for doctors built on WhatsApp, has raised $14 million in Seed funding.

The round was led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from General Catalyst, Accel, and prominent healthcare and fintech founders.

Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) is a venture capital firm that backs bold entrepreneurs shaping the future through technology. Founded in 2009, the firm manages multiple funds across stages, sectors, and geographies, with over $46 billion in committed capital. a16z invests in seed- to growth-stage companies across AI, bio + healthcare, consumer, crypto, enterprise, fintech, gaming, infrastructure, and companies building toward American dynamism.

The company will use the funding to expand its AI-powered platform across Latin America, enhance automation for non-clinical workflows, and scale internationally.

Founded by Caroline Merin, Leona Health is a healthcare technology company developing an AI co-pilot for doctors that integrates directly with WhatsApp to streamline patient communication and administrative workflows. Leveraging artificial intelligence, the platform enables physicians to manage messages through a dedicated mobile app with capabilities such as automatic categorization, suggested responses, team collaboration, and admin support. Initially launched across Latin America, the company now operates in 14 countries, supporting doctors from more than 22 specialties.
