Matey Raises $7.5 Million in Seed Round

Matey, an Austin, TX–based legal AI company focused on criminal defense, has raised $7.5 million in seed funding.

The round was led by Timespan Ventures, with participation from Neo and Streamlined Ventures.

Timespan Ventures is a U.S.-based early-stage venture capital firm founded in 2024 and headquartered in Los Angeles, California. The firm invests in early-stage technology companies across various sectors.

The company will use the funding to expand its product suite, hire across engineering and go-to-market teams, and strengthen partnerships with defense organizations, law firms, and universities.

Founded by Jared White, Matey is a legal AI company developing AI-powered tools for criminal defense. Its technology is designed to streamline case preparation by analyzing and processing large volumes of legal data.
