Pensive Raises $6.8M Seed

Pensive, a San Francisco, CA-based AI-powered grading platform for higher education, has raised $6.8 million in seed funding.

The round was led by Mayfield, with participation from Reach Capital, Anti Fund, a Sequoia Capital scout fund, an a16z scout fund, Bass Ventures, Vela Partners, Vlad Tenev, Karim Atiyeh, and the founders of Gradescope.

The funding will be used to expand Pensive’s AI-powered learning and grading features, enhance personalized learning experiences, and strengthen instructor-student engagement.

Pensive is an AI-powered education technology company that helps instructors grade assignments faster while promoting deeper student learning. The platform uses AI to reduce instructors’ grading workload, allowing them to spend more time on teaching, mentoring, and research. During its closed beta, Pensive supported more than 1,000 instructors across 100+ educational institutions and processed over 3 million graded questions. The company is headquartered in the United States and serves higher education institutions.
