Sarvam AI Raises $41 Million in Funding

Sarvam AI, a Chennai, India-based startup commited to building the full-stack for generative AI, has raised $41 million in across Seed and Series A financing rounds.

Lightspeed led the Series A round, whereas it co-led the Seed with Peak XV Partners. Peak XV and Khosla Ventures also participated in the Series A funding. The funding marks the largest at this stage for an Indian AI startup.

The funding will be used to develop the company's generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) models, with a focus on making generative AI relevant to India. Sarvam AI plans to train AI models to support a diverse set of Indian languages and voice-first interfaces, as well as collaborate with Indian enterprises to co-build domain-specific AI models on their data.

Founded by Raghavan and Pratyush Kumar, Sarvam AI is an AI/ML research and development company building large language models that support Indian languages and creating a platform that will allow businesses to build with LLMs. It is also focusing on building LLMs that use voice as the default interface in India. The company is on a mission to lead transformative research in AI that will make the development, deployment, and distribution of GenAI apps in India significantly robust, performant, and cheaper.
